Wedding Bands Ireland: Advice on choosing the best band for your wedding
Here is some basic advice for hiring a wedding band in Ireland. Make sure the band your viewing in the video and your going to see is the actual band that shows up to play at your wedding. Sometimes bands have up to three different crews doing the rounds at the same time and all using the same name, they use different musicians and singers on the night.
Another thing to keep in mind is the PA system, most bands come complete with a system that is perfect for up to 150 people. Ensure they bring small bass bins to improve the sound, extra bass does not make the system louder, just makes it sound better. When your wedding party goes over 150 people attending it is wise to discuss a possible upgrade and to look into the band bringing bigger speakers.
The DJ usually brings their own system and sets up separate to the band, this will allow the band to dismantle and take their equipment away without disturbing the start of the DJ’s performance. Sometimes the band and DJ work together and use each other’s gear but it must be worked out well in advance of the gig. A band will not hang around for an additional two hours waiting for the DJ to finish up his set.
Wireless microphones being used through the hotel’s sound system can be touch and go at the best if times as the quality of the systems vary greatly. If the band is set up early and the equipment is placed well in the room you might be able to use their PA but they will have to leave the system turned on or have someone to show you how to use it. Be sure to do a sound check either way and avoid a muffled sound or the dreaded feedback whistle.
Getting the band to play your first song is not an issue, most of them play it off an iPod or phone directly hooked up to their system, of course, if they know the song they will perform it live. Depending on the actual event most bands will not commit to performing it live on the night if they don’t know it, as it involves a few extra visits to their rehearsal rooms. Most brides and grooms don’t mind if the first dance is not live as long as the announcement is loud and clear and the crowd is informed of what is going on in a pleasant and uplifting manner. The band members are aware at this stage that they need to get everybody in the mood and up on the dance floor so it’s vital to be uplifting and enthusiastic.
Wedding Bands Ireland: Music Styles & Genres Selection
What style of music to you like? Most people go for a general party mix but the agency gets a lot of requests for an alternative band. Most bands can do this as they just swap out some of the more popular tunes with a more edgy indie hit. Some brides and grooms are looking for less rock and guitar and request a more poppy and dance-oriented set. This is ok with bands as most of them have a wide range of modern music lined up and rehearsed in their set. Jazz and Swing is still popular but the party hits of the 90s seems to be massive and the demand is growing every month. All the bands can perform a selection of hits from the 60s, 70s, and 80s and cater for all ages to keep the dancefloor jumping.
Agencies can take the stress out of finding a decent Wedding Band and give you piece of mind. The booking deposits they take are small in general and when expenses are paid and running costs deducted they can only make a profit from a large volume of gigs. The better Agencies that are well established run smoothly as the entertainers are looked after with a steady stream of work and very well organized events. With hundreds of happy clients every month it is worth your while to try them out, after all they have all the best wedding bands in Ireland on their books.
