This part of the proceedings need not be a nightmare for your guests, why not entertain them with some cool musicians for a change?
The drinks reception can be a bit of a chore for guests as it's usually on quite early and can go on for hours before the actual event starts. If you manage to get a captive audience all together at the same time why not take advantage and put some quality entertainment on for them? Getting the energy and "feel" right in the room is important at this stage as guests arrive and get settled for the evening, they want to walk into a room that is not empty, looks good, is well lit and has some nice background music playing. The volume should not be loud at this point and should be at eazy listening levels to allow guests to chat. Live musicians will have amplifiers with them and can control the volume up or down as needed. As the room fills up with your guests the music gets a little bit louder to keep the atmosphere just right, but not too loud. It's a balancing act to get it right and a small PA System will do the trick for up to a couple of hundred people in attendance. If it's a tiny reception area you might get away with no PA as the instruments will carry themselves but it's safer to have one in place in case the musicians are quiet compared the the level of voices talking in the room.

Solo musicians, Duos, Trios and Quartets are available in most musical styles. If your event has a limited budget that has been slashed or restricted for some reason be sure to chat with one of our bookers for some other options. You could possibly reduce the amount of musicians involved or just get a solo player in to save money. Some of the acts break down with ease into smaller groups but the likes of a classical quartet does sound a lot better if left as is. Solo artists usually bring an amplifier or small PA system to help carry the sound and most of the acts come complete with their own small sound system.
